Open Board Positions 2025
NAFA’s Board of Directors is composed of five (5) Officers and seven (7) Directors. Director terms are two years in length.
There are currently three (3) Director positions open for the upcoming term:
Term Duration: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2027
The Role of Volunteer Leaders
The NAFA Board of Directors serves as the governing body of the organization, holding ultimate policy and fiscal responsibility. Elected by the membership, Board members provide leadership, strategic vision, and oversight to guide NAFA’s future.
Board members are expected to:
- Be fully engaged with the organization
- Attend all Board meetings and education events at their own expense
NAFA provides a $1 million Directors & Officers (D&O) Liability Insurance policy to protect against potential exposure while serving.
Primary Responsibilities of the Board
Directors are expected to understand and participate in five key areas of governance:
- Governance
Oversight of the organization in accordance with the bylaws and articles of incorporation. This does not include day-to-day management, which is handled by staff. - Policy & Position Development
Establishing key policies and positions that guide the association and its stakeholders, especially on recurring or critical matters. - Visionary Leadership
Providing long-term direction through strategic planning, upholding NAFA’s mission and vision, and promoting its public image. - Fiduciary Responsibility
Overseeing financial health, legal compliance, and ethical integrity. - Recruitment
Engaging in active recruitment to grow NAFA’s membership and leadership pipeline.
Meetings & Time Commitment
The Board meets in person twice a year, with additional meetings held via conference calls as needed.
Estimated time commitment: 2–6 hours per month
Candidate Selection Criteria
The Nominating Committee will seek individuals who contribute to a balanced Board with regard to gender, generation, geography and member type.
In addition, strong candidates will demonstrate the following personal attributes:
- Advocacy for NAFA’s mission and goals
- Willingness to dedicate time to NAFA priorities
- Strategic, long-term thinking
- Financial acumen
- Strong communication skills
- Follow-through and accountability
- Independent judgment and ethical conduct
- Honesty, directness, and integrity
